XENOPHON WELCOMES RETHINK ON PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE CHANGES
Independent Senator for South Australia Nick Xenophon is calling on the Government to rethink its proposed changes to the Private Health Insurance Rebate in the interests of the millions of Australians without private health insurance.
“My main concern is for those Australians who have no choice but to rely on the public system,” Nick said.
“If the changes to the rebate drive people out of the private system and into the public system an already stretched health system could very well reach breaking point,” Nick said.
Senator Xenophon is calling on the Coalition and the Government to work together on this issue to reach a resolution that is in the interests of all Australians, insured and uninsured.
“This shouldn’t be about ideology, left or right, private or public,” Nick said. “This should be about finding the best way to provide health cover for everyone in this country.”
“When you are sick, and need a doctor, it shouldn’t matter who you vote for,” Nick said. “The only thing politicians should be thinking about is the best way to look after the health of all Australians.”
