Independent Senator Nick Xenophon has commented on reports his policy and press release on bank off-shoring was subsequently plagiarised by a parliamentary colleague.

"I welcome Senator Fielding's interest in this issue that affects thousands of jobs and the privacy of millions of Australians," Nick said.

"A good outcome for Australian consumers should be the goal, regardless of who feels the need to claim credit for achieving it."

"I'm willing to accept the whole thing was just a happy coincidence," Nick said.
