Australians are paying way too much for fuel. We are told that every time international oil prices go up, so must the price at the pump. But why, when international prices go down, do pump prices rarely drop? I believe that the problem isn’t to be found at your local servo, it is with the big fuel companies.
I also believe the Federal Government should ensure our trade practices laws are enhanced and enforced. That way, independent petrol retailers aren't driven out of the market, which reduces competition.
There is a lot that needs to be done at both retail and wholesale levels to ensure Australian motorists don't face price gouging by these cashed-up multi-nationals.
I am committed to working with the Government to ensure the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is given the powers and the resources it needs to take on the Big Oil companies.
If you’re concerned about being ripped off at the pump let me know through an email.
