Independent Senator for South Australia, Nick Xenophon, says the State Government should now disclose Lance Armstrong’s fees paid for his Tour Down Under role.
“Given that Lance Armstrong has now confessed to Oprah Winfrey to doping, ‘the commercial in confidence’ argument of the State Government no longer holds up,” Nick said.
Senator Xenophon said any refusal by the State Government to release details of the fees paid to Armstrong could be subject to a court challenge.
“A court should have regard to Armstrong’s confession and how that would work against the commercial in confidence argument,” Nick said.
“The Tour Down Under is a fantastic, world-class event that deserves the support of all South Australians.
“Releasing details of the taxpayer funds paid to Armstrong couldn’t possibly undermine the event in any way.
“If the State Government continues to refuse telling us how much Lance Armstrong received in taxpayer funds, then the Government is treating us as dopes.”
